What well do you keep running to? In John 4, Jesus meets a Samaritan woman at a well and offers her something far greater than the water she came to draw: living water. Jesus already knew her story, her struggles, and the places she had searched for fulfillment—and He met her there anyway. We all have thirsty hearts. We look to success, approval, relationships, money, comfort, control, and countless other things to satisfy something they were never designed to satisfy. Every other well eventually runs dry. Jesus doesn’t. In Week 2 of Welcome Home, we look at the story of the woman at the well and discover what happens when we stop returning to empty wells, encounter Jesus, and allow our story to become a testimony that points others to Him. THIRSTY HEARTS | Welcome Home — Week 2
We all have a thirst that we’re trying to satisfy.
Success. Approval. Control. Relationships. Money. Comfort. Achievement. Even good things can become dangerous when we ask them to give us what only God can give.
In John 4, Jesus intentionally travels through Samaria and meets a woman at a well. She comes looking for physical water, but Jesus exposes a much deeper thirst and offers her “living water”—a life only He can provide.
Jesus knew her entire story, and He came to the well anyway.
Her encounter with Jesus changes everything. She leaves behind her water jar, runs back to the people she had been avoiding, and tells them about Jesus. Her story didn’t disqualify her from carrying the Gospel; her encounter with Jesus gave her a story worth telling.
The question isn’t whether we’re thirsty. The question is: What well are we going to in order to satisfy that thirst?
Every other well eventually runs dry. Jesus doesn’t.
